You may remember a few weeks ago when I posted this cupboard below... and I wasn't sure if I should keep the paint on the doors as they were... or paint them to match the base color...
Well, I did decide to paint it, against the advice of most of you! hehe... so this is the BEFORE picture...
and this is the BEFORE BEFORE picture... I snagged this photo from my Mom's blog, she is the one that gave me this cupboard! (she decided she didnt' have room for it after all... I was happy to take it off of her hands! lol ) This is the beginning stages of the cupboard and how rough of shape it was in when I got it!
Pretty bad eh?
so...
This photo below is how it looks AFTER. I took the advice of a few of you ladies and painted it lightly with a soft white color.. and then glazed in the chippy cracks. It worked wonderfully! I really wanted to keep the original chippy paint and so that was why I was afraid to paint... but after Holly was so kind to share how she glazed one of her cabinets... I was able to keep the awesome old paint look but blend the cabinet base with the doors. I am much happier now...
I used Behr Swiss Coffee in a semi gloss finish for the paint, and Lowes Valspar Mocha glaze
I had some old hardware that I was saving for something special... and how ironic that I bought 3 of these old pulls at an antique show one time... just the amount I needed.
This cabinet is an old bakers cabinet... the three holes in the door is for venting when they would put dough or whatever in there.
I left the wood top unpainted... I love that old wood top...
See how you can see all of the cracks that were there...I very lightly glazed with a dark brown glaze in the cracks. I didn't do too much glazing... just a little bit.
Then after I painted, glazed, and added all the hardware, replaced the glass in the doors ... and had my husband build me some little brackets for the side, I filled it up with some pretty things. lol! It was quite a process to get this cupboard in working order.
I am really happy to finally have it done... and at first I was worried that it was too big for my room, but now that it is finished I am happy to have the wonderful storage in my tiny little dining room.
happy weekend to you!! xo Heather
