I think I may have pushed him over the deep edge.
SO I was driving home today from a quick visit to the antique shop down the road... and as I pull in the driveway I am hoping ~ hoping ~ hoping that hubby is fast asleep in his man cave so that I can somehow sneak this old chippy door in the house before he sees it sticking out of the back of my jeep. of COURSE, as soon as I pull in he happens to be walking past the front door. our converstaion went something like this...
husband "Heather (he never calls me heather unless he is mad) what is that?"
me "oh it is this great old door that I found and thought it would look nice in the living room"
husband " you have got to be kidding me"
me "nope, nope not kidding... I love it. don't you love the color?"
husband "that is the most hideous thing I have ever seen. You mean you paid money for that?? I cannot belive you are putting that thing in our house, it looks like it fell off my grandmas back porch."
me "oh you just don't understand, old architectural details are so pretty in a room... it just adds a little something. It is artistic"
husband" OK, I can handle all the chippy paint, all the rusty old things you drag home with paint falling off, I can handle the fact that you painted our 100 year old dining room table... I can even handle how you hang up frames in our house with nothing in the frames... but this door.... I cannot handle. People are going to think we are weird"
me "oh honey, you just don't understand vintage style... it will grow on you soon and you won't even notice it"
*sigh*
so all night I have had to listen to remarks about my "door to nowhere" in the living room... and he even has my boys in on it all too. What is a girl to do that is completely outnumbered by the males in her house? I tried to show them photos from magazines of old doors in the rooms but they just don't seem to care.
I don't care what they say... I like it. Do you think it is hideous? I am just curious... I need to know if you all would be embarrased to have this in your house? Maybe I really am weird.
Do any of you vintage lovers have old doors in your house? Please tell!
