You know how us vintage people love all of the character and workmanship in old things from the past. Well, that is so true... even in the cemetery. There are some downright breathtaking statuary in old cemeteries.
Yesterday, I got up in the morning... got the kids off to school... grabbed my new camera... got myself a latte from Starbucks, and headed off to the city to visit Allegheny Cemetery . It is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in our Pittsburgh area. It was founded in 1844 and is over 300 acres of rolling hills right in the middle of the city.
This place is not desolate... it is alive with people who walk through the beautiful paths... animals scurry about... geese and ducks swim in the ponds, and the groundskeepers are busy keeping it beautiful. They even have a greenhouse right on the property. It really is more like a park just as much as a cemetery. It is so peaceful there.
I followed these steps to see where they would go... they led me high up on a hillside in one of the oldest parts of the cemetary.
I was thinking about cemetaries while I was walking about and I couldn't help but feel all the love that lives there. The memorials to the loved ones are so beautiful and so much care is gone in to preserving their memory. I hope you don't find my photos creepy, just wanted to share the love and beauty of this amazing place.
I thought this photo turned out kindof cool... looks like this statue is trying to reach all the way to heaven.
My huband told me not only was it creepy that I took photos in a cemetery... but there I go again with the doors. lol!
I walked and walked through the cemetery until the sun was high in the sky. When I got home and was looking through my photos I came across this photo above with the weird glowing light off to the right side... probably something with the lens... or maybe a little angel was watching me wander through?
Hope I didn't creep you out with my cemetery photos... I just think there is something so romantic, beautiful and sacred about places like this one.

p.s.- THanks so much for all the comments about the DOOR! I shared them with my husband and now he thinks we are all a little bit nuts, haha!
