Remember I showed you my new furniture in my Living Room? Hopefully you aren't sick of hearing about it yet... I am still fixing and fluffing the room. My husband and I hung up a chandelier this past week above my coffee table.
I bought this chandelier years ago when I went to an estate auction and loved it but never really knew where to hang it. It has literally sat in a bin for years untouched.
SO I took it out and painted the gold gilt with a fresh coat of white paint. I didn't realize at the time I bought it that it was a lovely Italian chandelier. We removed all of the electric wiring to turn it into a beautiful candle holder. We don't have any overhead lighting in our living room so I thought this was the easiest way to get the look of a chandelier but without rewiring.
It reminds me of a little piece of sparkly jewelry in the room. ;)
My living room is mostly used by myself and my littlest son. We have a family room in the downstairs level of our home that is the place of choice for my husband and oldest son to hang. My husband has his man recliner there... and is turning it into a bigger and bigger Steeler shrine every day. That is a whole other subject...
So anyway, this room here is where my little son plays with his toys and watches tv. I received a comment one time that said "I can't believe you have children in your house"... and actually it kindof offended me... lol! Believe me, I do not own anything grand and we LIVE in this room... throw pillows on the floor, put our feet up on the coffee table and build tents out of blankets draped over the sofa and table. Everything is usually wipeable and washable. It is only clean like this maybe once a day... and usually when kids are in bed. haha!
Ok so with that said... I will tell you a funny story. This weekend my kids were playing with one of those squishy balls that has the slimey stuff inside and the eyeballs pop out.. you KNOW the kind right? SO my biggest son somehow POPS the SLIME (flourescent green) ALL over my new couch and chair while he is throwing it at my little son.
green slime all over the couch and mirror and chair and carpet..
I about died... you know, because I just GOT this furniture. So of course they had to do that!
BUT the couch really is wonderful because all I did was pop that baby in the wash and voila, it is like new! The first stains came out...now we will have to see what they spill next to see how long this lasts.
Another project I worked on this weekend was I sewed a pillow and lap blanket.
The pillow is from this beautiful Rachel Ashwell fabric which I love because it has the deep crimson in the middle of the rose.
And this is the lap blanket... I took a piece of a vintage white coverlet and a favorite old fabric and sewed them together. SInce both fabrics were pretty heavy it makes a wonderful weight for a small throw.
Just love fabric from the 1940s and it gives such a nice splash of color to the room.
So now I am enjoying sitting in my little spot reading magazines when the kids go to sleep, or drinking my morning cup of coffee. At night when I light my candles it lets off the prettiest glow of candlelight. (I am using dripless candles by the way... just so you don't think I am dripping wax all over everything) Don't you just LOVE candles?
