Paper Doll Round Robin, another round

IMG_2481

I finished my page spread in a paper doll round robin I am participating in... these are the pages I created for Andrea's book.

IMG_2487

One of the things I I love about Andrea is that she is very sentimental about things that have to do with family, and often that is reflected in her art. So, with that in mind, I began to create these pages as a sentiment to her and her husband George.

They are both Italian, so when I found this cute little boy with that curly black hair I just knew he would be perfect! The little girl even looks like Miss Andrea to me... haha. AND she is wearing pink and green which tends to be one of Andrea's favorite color combinations.

I ♥ Ribbon Flowers

IMG_2270

Steph and I had another craft night last week and we made some pretty ribbon flowers. Awhile ago, I started learning how to make ribbon flowers... and every time I sit down to make them... I realize just how much time it takes and how patient I need to be. I finally taught myself how to make a rose...yay. Of course my roses pale in comparison to the really old ones that I have seen and love so much but I am having fun doing it and learning as I go.

Earlier this year, I had all of these visions of selling beautiful products with ribbon flowers dripping all over them...  but now I am certain that I would go crazy if I had to sit there and make them all the time. I just do not have the patience for mass production of these little babies....

IMG_2245

I used the beautiful silk and velvet ribbons from my shop... they worked SO nicely. I have tried to make them with regular craft store ribbons and they just don't ever look the same. I think that is why the vintage ones are so appealing... they always used such lovely ribbons back then... nope, no fake plastic rubbery stuff back then for sure.

IMG_2273

these are my roses! I am so proud of them... even made some cute little leaves.

IMG_2274

These little three petal flowers are SO fun to make and one of the easier types. Maybe sometime I will do a little tutorial here on my blog for you to see how to make them...

IMG_2285

Steph brought these cutest ever little rhinestone's for the centers... I love them. I need to make some more of this style.

These rolled velvet roses are not perfect... but I just love making them and they are so so cute.

IMG_2321

I embellished this vintage purse with one of them... looks so sweet on there, yes?

IMG_22652

So there we have it... another crafting adventure! lol I love having craft nights because it makes us get things done we want to do, but could easily put off if we didn't plan for them.

Tonight I am going to relax and watch tv and finish up this girls book for a round robin I am in... I am running late late late on it.

Hope you guys had a great holiday weekend (well a holiday for those of you that live in the US!)... we had such a nice weekend. My oldest son plays the drums and he played for an outdoor park festival on the 4th of july. The weather was gorgeous... there was a creek there for my little son to play in and my husband and I just enjoyed sitting back and relaxing under a big oak tree. I loved it! It was a perfect weekend.

Talk to you all soon! xoxo Heather

Fabric Cuff Swap

3659013060_2a87afc563_o

Good Morning... happy Monday!

The lovely Natasha hosted a beautiful fabric cuff-bracelet swap. I was excited to be paired with Sandra because she is definatly a girl after my own heart. ;) This is the beautiful cuff she made me! She took so much time and care with it. Everything is sewn so beautifully together with all the best little bits. One of the things I admire so much about Sandra is her ability to sew and crochet. She even made the lace that comes down in a point on the front of the cuff herself. I love that!

I absolutly ADORE that little ribbon rosette.... love the lacey bits and all those mother of pearl buttons. I forgot to get a better photo of the fringey part at the top... but I love that detail! I love the beautiful buckle in the center... so pretty with the silk fabric woven through it.... and of course I love the ruffle!

3659043562_a6c685e037_o

She even embroidered my initials on the back of the cuff... I can't tell you how much I love this l! I think I would wear the cuff on this side too just for that. hehe.

Inside the package she sent along the sweeeetest little things. the card is just adorable and see the pink ribbon on that button on the left? Well, that is a magnet! she glued a magnet to the back... genius.

Oh, I love this little lace with the ribbon through it... just adorable.

3659010824_f0336aab82_o

and how cute are these little tacks?? I love em... I just love em.

Thank you SOooo much Sandra for creating me such a beautiful cuff and for all of the pretty little things you sent along with it. I love it all!

~~~~
Next up is the cuff that I sent to her...
IMG_1301f
When I think of Sandra, I think of lace and pink. She loves both of those things alot so that is where I tried to go with this cuff. I created it using a metal cuff bracelet as the base... since I don't sew well, this worked out great for me because then I could just glue my peices on! lol  (Unlike Sandra, my cuff is completely glued together! eeek...)
IMG_1270f
I covered the cuff with pink silk fabric... and then added this beautiful ruffle trim that came from an antique collar.
IMG_1274f
then added a little silk ribbon rosette and a vintage rhinestone button...
IMG_1281f
I keep thinking it looks like a little ruffled gown! haha. Anyway, I am happy to know it is safe and sound with Sandra. It was truly such a fun swap and it was fun challenging myself to make something I have never made before. I had wanted to make a cuff for a long time but never sat down to make one. I had so many ideas for different styles and materials that could be used. I would love to make more sometime.
I am off to get ready for a doctors appointment. I have been very very sick for the last week or so... I have bronchitis/sinus infection and it is really bad... I have been spending lots of time sipping tea, coughing, sleeping, coughing, and playing on the computer. lol! I have an appointment to go back to the doctor today to see if I should go on a different medicine. I can't believe I am this sick in the middle of summer. I guess that is just how it goes...
My little son said to me when I was having one of my coughing fits... "Mommy, are you ok"...and I said "yes"... he said, "well, you keep making me worry about you"!!
kids say the cutest things...
hope you have a great day! xo heather
p.s.- thank you so much for the orders for the ribbon! I just know you are gonna love them. ;)
Ribbons Ribbons Ribbons
I absolutly LOVE ribbons. I should say I really really LOVE good ribbon. The good stuff that is not so easy to come by.  silks, velvets and soft silky satins. They just make me happy. I think my favorite ribbon might be silk ribbon because it is SO soft and the texture is amazing. They don't sell silk ribbon in craft stores so it is rather difficult to find.
I have offered hand dyed ribbons in my shop before .... but now my plan is to grow this category of my website and offer more beautiful choices specializing in ones that remind me of vintage ribbons.
My hope is that these ribbons will be unique and different from most and I hope to offer new color-ways as I go. For now, the ribbons offered are my "core" colors... the colors that I choose over and over again for myself and my home. Most are hand dyed by me because I had a hard time finding all of the colors I love... so I made them!
so enough talking... here are a sampling of all of the ribbons. They are all listed in my shop now if you would like to check them out. I can't even tell you how much I love them all...
Through a camera lens you can really see....
IMG_1454
DId you ever notice that when you look through the camera lens  you can really SEE the details when you take photos that ordinarily would be missed. I just love this little cup and those sweet pink roses..
IMG_1439
This plate is one that I bought in Leesburg when I was there. Stephenie, Lori and I all bought one so it is a little rememberance of our trip there.
IMG_1478
I love the sweet little white flowers mixed with the roses..
IMG_1443
this one is falling into the pink and gold china category that I love so much lately..
IMG_1470
look how sweet the little hearts are on there... and the swags of flowers. ;)
IMG_3046
I am off to get some seriousl work done... my husband is at work, my biggest son is with his Dedo... and my little son is with his Pappy for the day so the whole house is mine! I am planning to dye ribbons all day today.
I have lots to post about this weekend so I will be back. I want to share a cuff swap I was in but am waiting until Sandra gets hers... and also I will be back on Friday night or Saturday with all of the ribbons for my shop. Until then... I will be enjoying my quiet day and singing this song...  Can I tell you how much I love this song?? I sing and dance to it like a complete idiot... haha. xoxo Heather
